neurotransmitter lecture question
during the neurotransmitter lecture, william asked a very good question-one of the neurotransmitter characteristic is that it is produced in the presynaptic end bulb. but epinephrine and norepinephrine are produced in the adrenal gland, why they are still considered as neurotransmitter?
the answer is actually very easy. neurotransmitter is neurotransmitter;hormone is hormone;don't mix it up........
for norepinephrine and epinephrine, it is a neurotransmitter when it is released from the presynaptic end bulb. it has nothing to do with the adrenal gland when it acts as the neurotransmitter. the epinephrine and norepinephrine that is released in the adrenal gland is the hormone because it is released into the blood circulation. further information please check guyton
